Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for marinade)
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • Cornstarch for thickening

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Marinate the beef strips for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté sliced onions until soft and caramelized; season with salt and pepper and set aside.
  3. Increase the heat to high and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the skillet. Stir-fry the marinated beef strips for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a small bowl, combine remaining soy sauce and rice vinegar with cornstarch. Pour this mixture over the beef in the skillet, simmering until thickened.
