  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup jalapenos (sliced and seeded)
  • 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons masa harina (or corn tortilla flour)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Sauté onions for 3–5 minutes until softened. Add garlic and ground chuck; cook until beef is browned.
  2. Reduce heat to medium-low. Stir in spices, crushed tomatoes, beans, black pepper, salt, jalapenos, and red pepper flakes. Mix well.
  3. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Then add masa harina to thicken and continue cooking for another 10 minutes.
  4. Serve hot with desired toppings.
